Early Intervention Services
Overview
Hillcroft Services is a First Steps provider of Speech Therapy and Developmental Therapy. First Steps is Indiana's Early Intervention system for families and children ages birth to three years of age with developmental delays or a diagnosis that makes them vulnerable to delays. First Steps is a family-centered, coordinated system of early intervention services that can include a variety of therapeutic and support services, depending on the child and family needs. Hillcroft provides two therapeutic services, developmental and speech therapy, through First Steps and United Way of Delaware County funding.
Developmental Therapy
Developmental therapy focuses on infant and toddler development and ways to promote development. This includes designing learning environments and activities to promote development across all domains: cognitive; physical; communication; social and emotional; and adaptive.
Speech Therapy
Speech therapy focuses on receptive (understanding what is said) and expressive (being able to speak so that others can understand) communication. It may include the use of sign language, augmentative communication devices or other assistive technology. The speech therapists may also be involved in creating and supporting the child's feeding program.
Our therapists work with the families and children to assist the child with developmental delays to reach new developmental milestones. They are also a great source of support for the families, providing education and community resources and referrals as needed.
