    Published Friday, February 3, 2012

The Indianapolis based non-profit Food Rescue has found a way to reduce the amount of unused food that is thrown away by restaurants in ten Indiana cities.  The relationships Food Rescue has established with restaurants and volunteers provides thousands of pounds of food to those in need through partnerships with several different organizations.

Hillcroft Services is very grateful to be one of the organizations in Muncie that has partnered with Food Rescue to “save” food. The Food Rescue partnerships in Muncie not only serve clients of Hillcroft, but also provide a great resource for other local nonprofits.

Food Rescue’s most recent food saving endeavor came in the form of 37,000 pounds of cookies donated by Maplehurst Bakeries. Hillcroft one of four agencies to receive nearly 10,000 pounds of snicker doodle and oatmeal raisin cookies.  Hillcroft’s portion of the rescued cookies will be divided up to be shared with other local non-profit organizations and used by Hillcroft’s programs.

Volunteers

Volunteers provide their time and talent to support Hillcroft's mission in a variety of ways.  Hillcroft Services provides direct support to our clients through staff that have been hired and trained in accordance with accreditation and state standards that provide oversight for the services provided by Hillcroft.  Therefore, opportunities to volunteer in a capacity that would provide direct support to Hillcroft's clients are limited.  Successful volunteer opportunities include:

Group Projects or Work Days

Volunteer groups provide tremendous support to Hillcroft in a variety of capacities.  Faith-based, family and school groups routinely volunteer to support work days at Camp Isanogel, cleaning of agency vans used to transport clients in the community, and flower planting/landscaping at all locations.  If you are interested in planning a group project, please contact Elizabeth Piazza at (765) 288-1073 or epiazza@hillcroft.org

Hillcroft Services has been the generous recipient of the donation of a variety professional services.  Hillcroft is routinely in need of the support of professional photographers and videographers.  Additionally, Hillcroft's clients are occasionally in need of support from attorneys in completing guardianship, healthcare representative, or advanced directive processes.  Volunteers who choose to donate their professional services provide an invaluable resource through giving of time and talent.  If you are interested in donating your professional services, please contact Brenda Williamson at (765) 284-4166 or bwilliamson@hillcroft.org.
